Overview
The Graduate Visa allows eligible international students to remain in the UK to work or seek work after graduation. Employment is permitted at any skill level (except as a professional sportsperson or coach).
Important Recent & Upcoming Changes
The Graduate visa normally lasts 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates). A government policy review proposes reducing non-PhD visas to 18 months for applications made on or after 1 January 2027 (subject to final legislation).
Eligibility Requirements
- Successful completion of an eligible UK degree under a Student or Tier 4 visa.
- Application must be made in the UK before current visa expiry.
- Provider must be Home Office-recognised and confirm completion to UKVI.
- Physical presence in the UK at time of application.
Length of Stay & Work Rights
- Non-PhD graduates — 2 years (current rule).
- PhD / doctoral graduates — 3 years.
- Post-2027 applications — proposed 18 months for non-PhD.
Work permitted at any skill level; no work as a professional sportsperson or coach.
Required Documents
- Passport & previous study eVisa .
- Confirmation of course completion from education provider.
- Evidence of immigration status & CAS details.
- Translations for non-English documents.
