Global Talent Visa

Fast-track entry for recognised leaders and emerging leaders in academia, research, arts and digital technology

Apply for a Global Talent Visa through Legate Hub — expert endorsement strategy, document preparation and full Home Office submission support.

Overview

The Global Talent visa enables leaders and potential leaders in science, engineering, medicine, humanities, social sciences, digital technology and the arts to live and work in the UK. Applicants usually require an endorsement from a Home Office-recognised endorsing body unless they have won a named eligible prestigious prize. Successful applicants may stay in the UK for up to five years and can extend or apply for settlement depending on their route and field.

Who Can Apply

  • Established leaders (“exceptional talent”) or emerging leaders (“exceptional promise”) in research, academia, arts & culture or digital technology.
  • Applicants who have won an eligible prestigious prize listed by the Home Office may apply without endorsement.
  • Those who cannot rely on a prize must secure endorsement from one of the designated endorsing bodies in their field.
  • You must apply for the visa (stage 2) within three months of receiving endorsement confirmation.

Recognised Endorsing Bodies (Examples)

Endorsement is granted by Home Office-designated bodies. Representative endorsing bodies include:

  • The Royal Society — for science and engineering applicants.
  • UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) — fast-track for approved funded researchers and fellows.
  • Arts Council England — for arts and culture applicants.
  • Tech Nation / other digital-tech endorsers — for digital technology entrepreneurs and specialists.
  • The Royal Academy of Engineering and The British Academy (among others) also operate endorsement routes.

Required Documents & Evidence

Evidence requirements vary by endorsing body and by whether you apply as a recognised leader or as promising talent. Typical evidence includes:

  • Sector-specific evidence of achievement (publications, awards, exhibitions, major contracts, leadership roles).
  • Letters of recommendation from senior figures in the field.
  • Evidence of sustained funding, major grants, or high-impact projects (for research applicants).
  • Portfolio materials, press coverage, performance records or critical reviews (for arts and culture applicants).
  • Evidence of business traction, patents, product impact, or measurable contribution to digital-tech ecosystems (for tech applicants).

Legate Hub prepares the endorsement dossier to the exacting standards of endorsing bodies and the Home Office.

Application Process (Two-Stage)

  1. Stage 1 — Endorsement Application: Submit your endorsement application to the chosen endorsing body with supporting evidence. Processing times and fast-track options vary by body.
  2. Stage 2 — Home Office Visa Application: Once endorsed (or if you hold an eligible prize), apply to the Home Office for the visa itself within the specified endorsement validity (typically 3 months). Attend biometric appointment as required.
  3. Decision & Arrival: On grant, travel to the UK and collect eVisa or confirm digital status; Legate Hub assists with entry planning and compliance advice.
  4. Extension & Settlement: You can extend the visa and, in many cases, qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 or 5 years depending on the route and evidence of contribution.

Processing Times, Fees & Fast-Track Options

  • Endorsement processing times vary by endorsing body; some provide fast-track endorsements for qualifying fellowships, grants or named appointments.
  • Visa application fees and the Immigration Health Surcharge apply at the Home Office stage; fee levels and any exemptions should be checked on GOV.UK at the time of application.
  • Decisions for the visa stage commonly take a few weeks although times vary by country and service level chosen (priority / super-priority where offered).
