Overview
The UK Skilled Worker Visa allows qualified professionals to live and work in the United Kingdom for an approved employer holding a valid sponsor licence. It replaces the former Work Visa and is part of the UK Points-Based System.
Successful applicants may stay in the UK for up to five years, extend their visa, and later apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after five years of lawful residence. This route also allows dependants (spouse and children) to accompany or join the main applicant.
Eligibility Requirements
- Hold a confirmed job offer from a UK employer with a valid sponsor licence.
- Possess a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by the employer specifying your role, salary, and duration of employment.
- Demonstrate that the job is at the appropriate skill level (RQF Level 3 or above).
- Meet the English-language requirement (B1 level CEFR or higher) unless exempt.
- Earn the minimum qualifying salary — generally £41,700 per year or the “going rate” for the occupation, whichever is higher (some roles may qualify for lower thresholds under shortage occupation rules).
- Have sufficient personal savings to support yourself when arriving in the UK (unless your sponsor certifies maintenance).
Required Documents Checklist
- Current passport or valid travel document.
- Certificate of Sponsorship reference number from your employer.
- Employment contract or detailed job offer letter.
- Evidence of English-language ability (approved test certificate or degree taught in English).
- Financial evidence showing available maintenance funds (if not certified by the sponsor).
- TB test certificate (if required by your country of residence).
- Marriage or birth certificates for any dependants applying with you.
- Certified translations of all non-English documents.
